How to Choose an HCG Diet Clinic or Doctor

DSC05220

Choosing an HCG Diet Doctor or Clinic is an important decision.  It’s critical that you know the facts and use them to make the decision that is right for you.  The most important piece of advice that I can offer here when choosing a plan or hCG Diet clinic is that you must be comfortable with every aspect of the program from the number of calories, allowed hCG diet foods, level of support, the cost and your budget, and a clinic program’s  adherence or modifications to the original protocol.

How to choose an HCG Diet Clinic

Choosing your hCG Diet Plan

Choosing your hCG plan is the most important thing you can do when choosing an hCG Diet clinic.  I am referring of course to the way the program is structured and everything from your daily dose of hCG, number of days in a round, and the list of foods you are allowed to eat.  I personally follow and recommend the original hCG Diet plan developed by endocrinologist Dr. A.T.W. Simeons.  I often recommend that dieters read his book Pounds and Inches, a new approach to obesity while they are making the decision and certainly before they begin the program.  For myself, I have found the pounds and inches protocol to be the most effective, offering long lasting, metabolism changing benefits and weight loss up to 1 pound a day.

There are programs that recommend variations and modifications to the hCG protocol.  I haven’t tried many of them so I can’t speak to their effectiveness but in my experience, dieters who are strongly deviating from the original program may not be losing as much as if they followed the original plan and low calorie diet.  That said, the hCG diet has evolved since it was first tested and conceived by Dr. Simeons and you must choose the plan that is right for you.  You may also have special needs that require dietary modification.  As an athlete for example, you may need extra protein.  Take all of this into account when choosing your plan and your clinic and work with your practitioner to determine how to reach your health goals.

hCG Prescriptions: Where to get hCG?

Choosing an hCG Diet Clinic or Physician will help you get your prescription for hCG.  Some hCG Diet Clinics will have you come in for your initial evaluation and then send you home with your hCG to mix yourself or they may mix it for you.  I would like to mention here too that your own primary care physician may be willing to prescribe you hCG if he or she is open to the science  behind the Pounds and Inches protocol.  If you would like a referral for a local or online physician in your area, feel free to ask.

What level of Support do you Need?

Every hCG dieter is different in their need for hCG diet support.  Some will want a greater level of help and support as they go through the program.  Many clinics offer full service hCG Diet programs that are very structured and offer a team providing emotional support and full materials to help you through the diet.  These programs tend to be more expensive because of the level of care they offer.  This is a great option for someone who wants that extra, full service treatment with their weight loss.

Some dieters going through a clinic program may have health challenges that require monitoring with a physician, especially when it comes to medications.  Some dieters may need adjustments such as less diabetic or blood pressure meds when going through the protocol and it is wise to make any changes to your meds under care of a physician.

Some dieters may be in great health already and just want to lose a little weight.  These dieters might prefer to get their prescription from their healthcare provider. and follow more of a DIY kind of model.  This is often one of the more affordable options for the diet.  That said, it is really helpful to get those baseline blood tests, body fat testing, and hormone/thyroid panels before starting the diet.

No matter what clinic or plan you choose, I support each person in their personal decision and health and wellness journey.  Regardless of what program or level of support you choose or is required for your own unique situation, I believe most hCG dieters can benefit from reading Pounds and Inches and getting the emotional and motivational support of a health an nutrition coach, support group, and doing their own due diligence before making a decision.

Get Recommendations From Other Patients

Lastly, as you are choosing an hCG diet program to guide you through the protocol, get recommendations, read testimonials, and do your own research.  When in doubt, trust your gut.  If a clinic is a good fit, the whole process from the moment you walk through the door to your interaction with the staff and your doctor should feel positive to you.  Remember, the hCG Diet clinic that is right for you will always take time to answer all your questions about the diet and make sure you are comfortable with the program.

I hope that these tips for choosing an hCG Diet clinic or doctor will give you confidence and knowledge as you go forward to start your diet.  The main thing to remember is that you want to get the support that you need and of course I am always here to answer questions and offer my help and support to you as well.  I do take a limited number of private and email health coaching clients every month.  If you are interested in working personally with me to reach your health and nutrition goals send an email or check out my coaching packages.

I’ll be putting up a free copy of Pounds and Inches on my website http://www.hcgrecipes.com soon. So, it will be a free download for everyone. Fascinating reading if you want to know the science behind the diet. Best are to focus on is “The Diet” section in the middle. Many clinics are doing the diet all wrong, wrong foods, telling you eat oil, selling shakes, so beware people. This diet is absolutely brilliant and works very very well when it is done correctly.

I am nearing my first week on the hcg diet and my prescribing Dr. did modify it and now i’m wondering why. I have a shake in to morning, we can’t have melba toast but can have a few other things on the list and 600-800 cal but I have mostly stuck with the orginal diet although I got the shake because I don’t like tea or coffee and didn’t know what to have for breakfast otherwise? I hope i’m not messing up by having followed a slightly modified program so far. His program for the stbalization phase is actually MUCH different than the orginal protocal I’m learning! He is a really great nice guy who is a naturopathic Dr. and my ins. actually is covering it because of that so I don’t think his motives are sales because I haven’t spent much at all. I’m going to ask him at my next check up why he has alterted some of the program? Got one of your two books I ordered today really looking forward to tring your recipes and love your explanation of the program it made a lot more sense to me the the orginal authors descriptions!

Hi Chrystal! I always defer to the original protocol and Dr. Simeons as correct. I’m not convinced that the protocol will work as it is supposed to, offering lasting results, when eating higher calories. I respect that your doctor is making decisions that he believes is right and there are certainly physicians who talk against eating a low calorie diet even temporarily. Egg white protein shakes are fine. While I have taken the stand to stick with the original program for best results, in the end, use your best judgment and what feels good to you. Take care, Tammy
