For successful HCG Diet Maintenance, it’s important to make the right choices and recognize that, while you lost all the weight with the HCG Phase, in order to maintain it requires a few shifts and life changes. Making smarter food choices and making changes gradually that make you feel good. Most of all, it takes commitment, remembering all your motivation for losing the weight in the first place. So here are a few helpful HCG Diet Maintenance tips to help you stay on track.

Choose the RIGHT kind of carbohydrates

Choosing the right carbohydrates is the key to a healthy diet. I recommend carbohydrates that are high in fiber and in their most unprocessed and natural state. Good carbohydrates ideally have all the fiber and phytonutrients intact and are lower on the glycemic index. Some healthy carbs you can enjoy on the HCG Maintenance Phase are brown rice, whole grain corn tortillas, sprouted grain bread, quinoa and high fiber or gluten free pasta

Eliminate artificial sweeteners and Enjoy SteviaArtificial sweeteners have been touted as a substitute for sugar and calories for many years and yet they have many dangers to health. Too many to list here. The most common artificial sweeteners found in many processed foods are Aspartame, sucralose, Saccharine, and Acefulfame K. Stevia is all natural and comes in a variety of flavors and forms. That is why a lot of the recipes in my HCG Diet Gourmet Cookbook Series are made with Stevia. It is calorie free and cooks great! Stevia and other natural low glycemic sweeteners can be a great way to maintain your weight after the HCG Diet.

Enjoy lots of Fresh Fruits and VegetablesEnjoying minimum of 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables per day on the Maintenance Phase of the HCG Diet is a great way to get optimal nutrition. Fruits and vegetables have lots of fiber, phytonutrients (brightly colored fruits and vegetables are best) and natural enzymes. Consider eating your fruits mostly raw and your vegetables raw or lightly steamed to preserve the highest quality of the nutrients.

Exercise regularly

Adding some form of exercise to your diet 3 or more times per week can greatly improve your health, reduce stress, and keep you fit. You don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy exercise. Taking a walk, a hike, swimming, bouncing on a rebounder, or going to the gym are all wonderful and fun ways to get regular exercise. Great to lift your mood and

I was deeply saddened today to hear of the death of Mega Pop Star Whitney Houston. Not many of you know that I am actually a singer and songwriter. I have a lot of musical interests and tastes but I mostly write alternative rock or the drippiest love songs you can imagine (Someday maybe I’ll be brave enough to put a song up on Youtube). I was even in a couple of rock bands (that went nowhere). Whitney’s incredibly beautiful, sweet, and powerfully dynamic voice would move me to tears back in the day with “I will Always Love you” or make me dance like a crazy girl around my teenage 1980′s bedroom with “I want to Dance with Somebody”.

Anyone who has ever been involved in the music industry understands the temptations of addictions, high stress, skipping meals, and other challenges. Whitney was like many great talented and creative people and fell prey to these issues. I have wondered if I had not made these health changes and lost weight with the HCG Diet if that could have been me.

I wasn’t always so healthy and had been exposed and participated in my share of unhealthy habits in the band and after my mothers death. When I first learned about the HCG Diet and read Kevin Trudeaus book, “The Weight Loss Cure They don’t want you to know about”. I was severely overweight, stressed out, depressed over my mothers death, I was subject to cravings, emotional eating and in need of a serious detox.

The HCG Diet changed my life. Hearing about Whitney Houston’s death reminded me of the path I was on before I became motivated to detox my body, eat healthier, and thanks to the HCG Diet FINALLY lose that 60 pounds. Talk about life changing.

By taking the step to lose weight with the HCG Diet, you have already made the most important decision. You took action. I would encourage anyone who struggles with any kind of health issue whether it be food, addiction, or any number of things that contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle to make those changes, to live your best life. We all have our gifts. Whitney Houston had the voice of an angel, I can cook and make amazing HCG Diet Recipes. What can you do that makes the world a better place? You can start today with small changes like substituting an unhealthy food or habit with a healthier one. Wherever you are in your life, whatever phase you are on with the HCG Diet, make the commitment to improve your health and change your lifestyle now.

First of all, be sure that you are using the correct weight to calculate if you are more than 2 pounds over, and indeed actually need a Steak Day. Your weight the day that you take your last dose of hCG is the weight that you want to stay within 2 pounds of, in either direction. This is NOT the lowest weight that you record on the morning of the first day of P3, which is 72 hours later!

That “First Day of P3” weight is typically 2 or even 3 pounds less than the LIW, or Last Injection Weight (also called LDSW or Last Sublingual Dose Weight, if you are taking hCG sublingually). Many people on the HCG Diet are given bad information, leading them to make the mistake of thinking that they need a Steak Day if they are more than 2 pounds over the weight they record the morning of starting P3, but this is entirely wrong. Trying to stay within 2 pounds of the weight reached on the morning of the day P3 starts is a recipe for P3 misery, because it is almost impossible for most folks. Doing a Steak Day, Protein Deficiency Day, or alternate type of Recovery Day every other day in P3 can be maddening. Not to mention that it is so very unnecessary in most cases, IF you are using the correct weight, reached on the morning of the last day of taking hCG.

Another mistake is not eating enough protein when first starting P3, which will cause water retention due to protein deficiency, since Dr. Simeons tells us that we are just on the verge of it during P2. The Protein Deficiency Day that he prescribes is to eat two eggs for breakfast, a huge steak at lunch, and another huge steak for dinner, plus a large helping of cheese, to bring your protein level higher. It’s still important to continue P3 after that, but with much more protein than you were eating previously, to avoid experiencing what Dr. Simeons calls “hunger-edema” again.

Why do we regain the weight lost in the 72 hours after the HCG Diet so quickly, anyway? Usually, whatever weight is reached after the 72 hours after the last hCG dose, is regained quickly due to restocking glycogen stores when beginning to eat normal amounts on P3. While on the diet, glycogen stores in the muscles and liver are depleted so that fat stores can be used instead for fuel. Since each gram of glycogen requires somewhere between 2.5 to 4 grams of water to be stored as well, you will gain at first, but it shouldn’t be more than 2-4 pounds from the glycogen, because usually it is about 50-100 grams of glycogen that is stored in the liver and about another 300-400 grams in the muscles (although that muscle glycogen might not all be restored until P4 when you eat more carbs). So that’s why those last few days of losses are always regained quickly and you use the last dose day weight instead of the lowest you reach after the 72 hours.

The book Pounds and Inches, a New Approach to Obesity by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons changed my life. It was all there in this miracle manuscript; the life changing information to help me reset my metabolism and lose nearly 60 pounds. It still amazes me to this day that this British endocrinologist stumbled upon the weight loss solution for so many people who are overweight and struggling with obesity.

The history of the HCG Diet begins in the 1950‘s with Dr. A.T.W. Simeons making a correlation between weight loss and obesity and a hormonal imbalance in young boys. The imbalance was corrected by a naturally derived medication called HCG or Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin. He studied the way the HCG worked and theorized that the HCG works to release abnormal fat stores from the body while resetting the hypothalamus gland which regulates metabolism and other endocrine functions. The Pounds and Inches literally melt away.

In 1954, he wrote his book Pounds and Inches, a New Approach to Obesity and detailed his findings. By eating a very low calorie diet (VLCD) of very specific foods while taking a daily dose of HCG, an overweight individual could lose up to a pound a day with little to no side effects. He treated hundreds of individuals with the HCG Diet at his clinic in Italy with great success.

Since the time Pounds and Inches was written, the HCG Diet has taken off in a big way across the country. HCG injections and sublingual drops are now available from 1000‘s of clinics across the country who offer the HCG Diet Protocol. Not only has the book Pounds and Inches and the HCG Diet changed my life, but the lives of countless individuals who have tried every diet and weight loss method known to man and finally found one that works for them.

Coconut oil has gotten a bad rap over the years – being touted as bad for you since it contains saturated fat.

Although federal dietary guidelines recommend consumers limit saturated fat to less than 10% of daily calories, nutritionists have noted that not all saturated fats are the same, which has caused scientists to backtrack on their previous reports against using coconut oil – making it a great choice for those on Phase 3 of the HCG Diet.

The main saturated fat in coconut oil is lauric acid which is a medium-chain fatty acid. Lauric acid increases levels of good HDL (high-density lipoprotein) and doesn’t increase bad LDL (low-density lipoprotein) in the blood. Some saturated fats, like those in coconut oil, boost immunity, fight aging and increase the level of metabolism, helping you to lose weight.

One of the best reasons to use coconut oil is the taste it adds to food, particularly virgin coconut oil, during Phase 3 of the HCG Diet. The fact that it’s healthy, does not go rancid and is easy on the pocketbook just adds to its appeal. It’s been shown to be very useful in reducing weight because it contains short and medium-chain acids that help in removing excess weight by increasing body metabolism. Studies have shown that people in tropical coastal areas who primarily use coconut oil for cooking are normally not overweight, further proof that coconut oil can help you manage your weight. Vegans have particularly embraced using coconut oil in cooking since it can be used in place of butter in many recipes.

Other noted health benefits of coconut oil include improved digestion, increased immunity, stress relief, hair and skin care, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, bone strength, and diabetes. Although coconut oil isn’t to be used during Phase 2, it’s an oil that tastes great, has all these benefits AND helps you lose and maintain weight in Phase 3 of the HCG Diet? What’s not to love about coconut oil?

My goal with my HCG Diet Gourmet Cookbook series is to offer delicious food on every phase of the HCG Diet. The Stabilization Phase 3 is a very flexible and fun time with the HCG Diet.
Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions on the HCGrecipes blog and Facebook page from HCG Dieters asking about imbibing an alcoholic beverage on Phase 3. The good news is YES! You can enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine and toast this holiday season on Phase 3 without issue. It is important however, to do it right.. choose the RIGHT cocktail, liquor, wine or beverage. So I’m going to share a few tips on how to keep your weight stable and still enjoy a festive holiday drink on P3.

First of all… the DONT’S.
Please please please AVOID all sugary mixers, Sweet liqueurs like Bailey’s, Amaretto, and flavored martini’s made with sugar, sweet dessert wines, pure fruit juices, and alcohol in excess while on P3. That said, you can have a pretty good variety of various cocktails and wines in moderation. Some of the best cocktails for P3 of the HCG Diet are those that involve sparkling water or tonic water with lemon, lime, or just a splash of natural fruit juice for flavor.

Liquors such as Vodka, bourbon, gin and tequila and other non-sweet distilled alcohols are just fine and one or two drinks should not cause weight gain or a stabilization problem the next day. When choosing a cocktail to enjoy, keep it to a splash of fruit juice such as cranberry, apple, or orange and mix with sparkling water or serve straight, neat, or on the rocks. Pure fruits juices contain excessive fructose which can be problematic while stabilizing on P3. You can make your own tropical fruity blended drinks using whole fresh or frozen fruit with coconut, cream, ice, and sweeten with Stevia.

Beer and wine are other potential alcoholic beverages to enjoy on the Stabilization Phase 3. I personally choose red wine over white because of the resveratol and would mention to you that red wines not only have more antioxidants but also less sugars that white wine. Dry champagne and sparkling wines are also fine in moderation.

Other holiday drink treats could be a hot cup of cocoa sweetened with Stevia, mulled and spiced wine, or a cup of homemade Egg Nog made with real cream and sweetened with Stevia and a hint of nutmeg.

So CELEBRATE with confidence and toast with Joy this Holiday Season! You can enjoy many special Holiday Beverages with friends and family and won’t blow your diet.

Wishing you all the Fun, Joy and Happiness of the Season!

Tammy Skye
