Hair Loss and the HCG Diet
The HCG Diet has so many benefits and offers incredible weight loss results using an all natural product with minimal side effects. That said, there is the issue of occasional and usually temporary hair loss.
I want to discuss this issue because it has been brought up very publicly on the HCG Diet episode of the Dr. Oz show and has raised questions for many on the safety of HCG. It is true that Hair Loss may occur for some people about a month or so following a round of HCG and the low calorie HCG Phase 2.
Hair loss following the HCG Phase 2 is usually temporary and what most people notice is that little to no hair falls out during the actual HCG Phase 2. Any hair loss that occurs after is usually just the hair that would have fallen out naturally during those months and didn’t.
For those that experience it (not everyone does), the hair loss is similar to hair loss a pregnant women may experience following a pregnancy. HCG is a pregnancy hormone after all.
Over the years, I have noticed higher incidents and more severe hair loss issues with women (such as myself) who have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), other hormonally based issues, or natural body changes such as menopause. For most healthy women who do the HCG Diet to lose weight, any mild hair loss is usually outweighed by the benefits of the weight loss and tends to be temporary. It should be noted that as women get older, it becomes more important to get their hormones check. Getting a baseline hormone panel prior to and following the HCG diet is highly recommended.
Here are a few ways to combat the issue of Hair Loss and the HCG Diet
Take hair vitamins, Omega 3 oils, silica, and magnesium supplements before and after the HCG Phase 2. (Please check with your physician or healthcare provider before taking any new supplements)
“Nutritional Loading” before and after the HCG Phase 2 with high quality supplements and a green drink.
Take liquid ionic trace minerals in your water during the HCG Phase 2.
Don’t stay on the diet longer than the recommended 43 day round to prevent nutritional deficiencies that may exacerbate an incident of hair loss following the HCG Phase 2.
I hope I have given you some ideas and eased your minds about the issue of hair loss and the HCG Diet. The fact is that it does exist for some people following the HCG Phase 2 and is a potential side effect but for most folks… the HCG Diet and it’s incredible health and weight loss benefits far outweighs the issue.
